Pictures, Pictures, and More Pictures

I finally have a camera! For the last few months I have been either using my camera phone or borrowing my mom’s camera.

So. . . . .

William after our “Black Friday” shopping – our tag-a-long. He was great. Slept on and off most of the time we were shopping then slept until noon with Mommy and Daddy. Tyler was playing with his cousins so he didn’t care that we were sleeping.

The fabric I got for sleep pants at JoAnn Fabrics. I hope to have the sleep pant project finished before Christmas, but there is no grantee on that.

Yesterday we had a magic ball of yarn swap at the mom’s group I go too when I am not working on Wednesdays. We are teaching a couple of the mom’s to knit and a couple of us are trying new things. I had a lot of fun getting my package together. Everyone said that they did. We all decided that we wanted to do it again, just not close to Christmas.

I really like what I got from the swap. A knitting needle I have been wanting. 6 more stitch markers, candy, scissors and couple of fun balls of yarn. The bag is awesome. It is a great size for a couple of smaller projects.

I am working on getting my Christmas projects done as quickly as I can. Of course, I have to wait on posting pictures until after Christmas. I really home everyone enjoys what they get.

Tomorrow we are going over to a friend’s house to learn how to make knitting stitch markers, like the ones in the picture above.

Thanksgiving, Shopping, and Christmas Projects

We had a nice Thanksgiving considering I had to work. We went down to Lansing on Tuesday evening to stay at my in-laws. Wednesday we were able to spend time with my dad and family, Thursday Russ was with his parents and extended family. Friday we were able to go over to friends house that Tyler loves to play with their kids. Now they need to come up and visit us.

Friday morning after I got back from work, Russ, William (because he was awake when we were leaving), and I headed out to the Black Friday sales. We managed to go to 3 stores as they opened, Kohl’s, Walmart, and JoAnn Fabric. Kohl’s was too crazy for us and we weren’t really looking for anything there. Walmart, Russ got the GPS he has been wanting for a long time and I got a new camera. (We were given our Christmas money early from one family). JoAnn’s I made out well, 6 different cuts of flannel for making PJ pants for, Russ, my sister, and myself. I will post pictures later.

Friday, my mother-in-law and I headed over to Threadbear. It was fun to just go and brouse through that store. I did get the yarn to make one of my sister’s Christmas present. I was hard to decide what to make since I just got a solid color, but I really like the pattern I chose and how it is working up. Hopefully I can finnish all my Christmas projects before Christmas. I have lots to do.

Remember my project list I posted a while ago. I should go through and edit it and figure out what still I need to do. Some of the things on the list I am not going to do anymore, and of course more have been added.

Mommy, Do your knitting!

I was sitting at the computer reading my email and Tyler yells from the other room, “Mommy, do your knitting.”  He is very excited about a knit along project I am working on, a knitted dragon.  He wants one so bad.  I hope I can pull off making a few for Christmas.  They would also make great gifts for my nieces that visited last weekend.

Fun Weekend

I started this Sunday night . . . . .

Man you don’t relieze how tired you can get from having a 5 year old, 2 3 years olds, and a 1 year old around until it happens and not getting much sleep the night before everyone arrived.

My mother-in-law came to visit this weekend and brought our neices with her.  Tyler loved having his cousins here to visit.  We met them at Twisted Wrap & Skeins,  a yarn shop about 30 minutes from our house.   My mother-in-law and I both enjoy knitting and feed each other with ideas, so that stop was totally for us. You can tell that they are used to having kids come into that shop and the 3 older kids behaived very well.  William was also very good.  I got some yarn to work on Christmas projects and my mother-in-law and I both got some yarn to start leaning to knit socks.  They also gave me a pattern to start leaning with.

After we got home and ate dinner I started my fist pair of socks.  I am less than  an Start of Sock 1inch from starting to turn the heel.  I have finished the first sock, and started  the second one.  It is an awesome pattern, especially for a beginner.  These are going to be great slipper socks since I used “kitchen cotton.”  I am looking forward to starting socks using “sock yarn.”

Saturday, I made chocolate muffins for breakfast.  The kids just ate those up.  I was glad that it was nice day outside since we put the coats on the older 3 and let them go outside to play.   We watched the 1st half of the Michigan State football game, then after getting the 2 3 year olds down for a nap, my mother in law and I headed back out for more yarn stores, this time in town.

First we went to Material Mart.  I was not impressed at all.  They seemed  a little stuffy to me.  Weren’t that much help.  We did find that they had some nice knitting needles so my mother in law bought me a pair of size 1, 16″ cable and 24″ cable.  They had a decent selection of yarn. I might go back and look over their yarn again, though it is not my first choice of stores to go to.

Since we were unimpressed at Material Mart, we headed over to Granny Square Yarn.  That was a little bit more fun. They are going out of business :(, so they had their knitting stuff 40% off.  I ended up with enough yarn for another pair of socks.  They were very nice in there.  I wish they weren’t going out, I would shop their more.

We took 2 of the kids with us on that shopping trip.  They both were very good.  William had fun finding the toys and things he could play with while we were shoping.  (On the left is my stash from the shopping trips.)

When we got back, the nappers woke up, Michigan State won (now are bowl eligible), so we moved all the car seats into the trailblazer and went to the mall for more play time.  They had fun playing at the play area.  Came home and everyone went to bed much ealier than the night before.

Sunday, I made a yumy blueberry coffee cake. Note to self make again, make again.  It smelled so good while it was baking.  We made it to church on time considering getting 4 kids and 3 adults ready for church and putting the roast in the oven for dinner.

After dinner they headed home.  All the adults agreeed that it was time to go home.  I am looking forward to having them come again.  We leaned alot about how to get everyone fed and kept happy and got a lot of crafting time in.

I am liking my house

Ok, that may seem like a weird title for a blog, but it is true. I am liking my house right now because it is close to being clean! For those who have been over to my house you know I am not the best housekeeper. There are usually several piles laying around and clutter on the floor. It is not anything like the homes you see on BBC’s How Clean is Your House?, but it can be pretty embarrassing.

This weekend my mother in law is coming up to visit us and bringing the cousins, Abby and Miriam (5&3).  Tyler is so excited that his cousins are coming to visit him.   He keeps thinking they are coming today.  I think we are all looking forward to them coming.

Since they are coming I have been in cleaning mode and wanting to take care of some messes, I have been trying to get to for a while.  Today the office got mostly done.  I have to finish a couple more areas, before my mother in law can sleep in here and so I can get into the closet, but I have to wait for my mom to bring me some parts to the filing cabinet she gave us to be able to move things so I can get into the closet.  I did get a good start on switching out the adult winter/summer clothes.  I had done the boys a while ago.

We also went and got a bags for our vacuum cleaner today.  I don’t think we had changed that bag since we moved.  It needed to be done as the vacuum had lost suction and the bag was almost overflowing. It was nice to vacuum with a properly working vacuum today.

I am working the next 2 days, so not much more will get done.  Friday I want to vacuum upstairs and the living-room and finish picking up what I can.  The house will be mostly clean for them.  I really need to keep working at flying, like the Flylady.  If I can just get those habits going, my house really would be in good shape.  Lets see if I can keep doing a good job picking up after myself this weekend and beyond.

I am having a really hard time staying off Ravelry, a really awesome knitting and crochet website.  My mother in law also has an invite coming, looks like she will have it before the weekend is over.  If you are on Ravelry, my name is mipennsn, my basic Internet handle.

Yesterday at work I got in to a conversation with one of my co-workers about cutting hair.  It turns out that it used to be her job until she was in an accident and couldn’t cut hair 8 hours a day because of her shoulder, but could be an RN.  She is a single mom to 5 kids.  Though the course of our conversation, she ended up offering to cut my hair for FREE!!!!!!  She understands what it means to be short on funds and just loves to do hair.

It has been about 5 months since I had it cut and I had it cut into a short style the last time I had it cut.  I think I am going to have her cut it short again.  I cut my own bangs the end of last week and now the front of my hair is a mess.  It is time for some real help.  I am going over to her house in about an hour.  It is also nice that she lives in the same town I do, though we work about 30 miles from our homes.

God provides in ways we lest expect.

Trick or Treat

Tyler loved Trick or Treating last night. I was originally planing on making him some scrubs and letting him use my stethoscope. A couple weeks ago, I made the mistake of asking him what he wanted to be for Halloween just after they had talked about being a handyman like Handy Manny on Disney Channel. He wanted to be like Handy Manny. I never did make the dig through the toys like I wanted, so Tyler ended up getting a new toy tool set from Walmart. He can give you each of the character names from Handy Manny. He loves his new tools. He had to have his pencil behind his ear.

William was a little bear. My friend Carolynn was nice enough to loan me a costume that she had used for her son. Isn’t he cute.

Mom and Dad were just wet parents since it rained at the beginning of Trick or Treating. We did go to Trunk or Treat at our church. I think both the boys had a good time last night though Tyler was almost more excited about his new toys than the candy.
